Another reason I don't miss pipe bands....

I remember it like yesterday.... 4th of July 1998. There I was standing at the top of Main Street in Park City at 11:00 am.... pretty sure it was about 99 degrees out and I was gearing up for the bands third of five parades for the day. As I looked down the sloped street I saw hundreds of people in shorts and t-shirts sitting in lawn chairs with shade umbrellas, having a cool drink and enjoying the holiday. As I watched all of the people, I was struck with a sudden realization. THEY ARE ALL HAVING A GOOD TIME! Me.... I was working, and for what? THE BAND!

Since I called it quits on the pipe band community in 1999, I've made it a point to enjoy all of the holidays that once meant parade marathon to me. The 4th of July is one of my favorites. Not only is it a fantastic time to remember those who gave all they had for freedom, but it's the worst parade day of the year.

This year I spent the 4th weekend floating down the Salmon River with friends and family. How's that for commitment to the band Mr. Pipe Major?? Ha! Stick that in your drone and blow it!

I hope you all had a happy 4th too.

Hahaha. Love it! I don't miss the band scene either, gotta admit.
